Walmart drawings and Pokémon Center queues: how each line works, and what you pay

Walmart sells some Pokémon cards online by drawing: you enter for free during a window of about an hour, Walmart picks entries at random after it closes, and if you're picked it places and charges your order automatically (Walmart's rules, as quoted by Hip2Save, October 7, 2026). Pokémon Center uses a queue instead: on a big drop you wait in a virtual waiting room until it lets you into the store, and the wait it shows is an estimate, "not a live countdown" (Game Rant, February 2026). Here's how each one works, what Walmart has charged, and how to be ready.

In short

  • Walmart: speed doesn't matter. Entering in the first minute or the last gives the same chance. Winners are charged automatically; everyone else hears nothing.
  • Pokémon Center: getting in isn't getting a box. The queue lets you into the store a few people at a time, and stock can sell out while you wait.
  • Walmart's drawing prices have been above MSRP: $69 to $69.99 for Elite Trainer Boxes that list at $49.99.
  • Both change often. Walmart moved from one weekly slot to two drawings on back-to-back days this week.

How Walmart's drawing works

  1. 1. Sign inA free Walmart account is all you need.
  2. 2. Enter in the windowPick address, card and quantity first. You can't change them later.
  3. 3. Random pickAfter the window closes.
  4. 4. Order and emailPicked entries are ordered and charged, then emailed.

Walmart describes it as a way to "give customers a chance to buy select high-demand items" (Kotaku, August 31, 2026). Entry is free, and you can enter several drawings at once (Hip2Save). Walmart removes entries it believes are fraudulent or abusive (ComicBook.com, September 1, 2026).

When: Walmart's drawing page lists each product with its start time. Most drawings since September have run on Wednesdays from 2 to 3 PM Pacific (4 to 5 PM Central). This week there were two: Wednesday, October 7 from 2 PM PT, and Thursday, October 8 from 9 AM PT (Wargamer; Walmart's drawing page, October 7). So check the page rather than counting on a fixed slot.

The fine print: items bought through a drawing "may not be returnable", and orders under $35 may carry a delivery fee, since a drawing order can't be combined with your cart (Hip2Save, quoting Walmart).

What Walmart has charged

ProductWalmart drawingMSRP
Prismatic Evolutions Elite Trainer Box (first drawing, Aug 31)$69.99 (Dexerto)$49.99 (PHD Games)
30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box (Oct 7)$69 (Wargamer)$49.99 (PHD Games)
30th Celebration Booster Bundles, 2-pack (Oct 8)$64 (Walmart, October 7)$53.88 for two (PHD Games)

A drawing beats a race that bots win, but Walmart's drawing prices have been above MSRP. Our yardstick is the MSRP: anything above it is a premium, whatever line it comes through. Deals shows which shops have the same box at or near MSRP right now (before shipping and tax), and the Report Card scores how Walmart and the other big stores sell.

How Pokémon Center's queue works

Pokémon Center's US site added a virtual queue in February 2025: "The system places potential buyers into a virtual line" (Screen Rant, February 4, 2025). It switches on when traffic is heavy, such as pre-orders for a new set.

  • The wait is a guess. It's "recalculated as conditions change", so it can go up as well as down, and the page may refresh by itself (Game Rant). Keep the tab open.
  • Getting in doesn't reserve stock. In September 2025, millions joined a queue for pre-orders that turned out not to be on sale yet, and found plush and puzzles inside (Wargamer).
  • Limits are set per drop. At the Delta Reign pre-orders on September 30, 2026, reported limits were two Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Boxes, one booster box and one Booster Bundle; stock lasted about two hours, and many people saw their wait jump back up (how that drop went).
  • What Pokémon Center hasn't said: whether people who arrive before the start are shuffled or kept in arrival order, and how long a cart is held once you're in.

Pokémon Center also sells some items by emailed invitation, with no queue at all. That's a different system; see how Pokémon Center invitations work.

Be ready for both

  1. Save your address and card ahead of time on both sites, and sign in before the window opens.
  2. For Walmart, double-check the quantity and card before you submit; you can't edit an entry.
  3. For Pokémon Center, join the waiting room once, in one tab, and don't refresh.
  4. Check the price against MSRP before you enter or check out.

Our Windows page lists Walmart drawings and Pokémon Center queues as they open, along with the other lines we cover.
