How the Delta Reign pre-orders went at Pokémon Center
Pre-orders opened on September 30, 2026, 37 days before the November 6 release, as the last two sets suggested. They sold out in about two hours. Many people in line watched their wait go down, then back up.
In short
- About two hours of stock. Pre-orders went live around 11:01 AM Central, and everything looked sold out by about 1:01 PM.
- The line moved backwards for many people. Wait estimates dropped, then jumped back up, often after a repeat CAPTCHA check.
- Plenty of people did get through, mostly in the first two hours.
- Pokémon Center hasn't explained the line. Its support team doesn't take queue questions. We list the open questions below.
What happened, minute by minute

The timing matched the last two main sets: Chaos Rising opened 39 days before release and Pitch Black 37 (PokeBeach). Delta Reign opened 37 days out, which PokeBeach confirmed (PokeBeach).
Joseph Writer Anderson reported an initial wait of "8+ hours" that soon "climbed to 9 hours" (Joseph Writer Anderson). Pokémon Center's own help page says wait estimates vary with traffic, that customer support can't help with queue questions, and that waiting in line "does not guarantee product availability" (Pokémon Center Support).
What we saw in line
We joined the line about 12 minutes after it opened. The estimate said about 12 hours. We stayed on the same page the whole time and watched the number of people ahead of us drop fast, then climb back up, then drop again. It was nowhere near the 12 hours it first showed.
We still don't know why. People may have been removed by bot protection, or the line may have kept moving after the product had already run out.
Others saw the same thing
- A timer that dropped to a couple of hours, then went back up to 7, over and over (post).
- Repeated CAPTCHA checks every few minutes, where missing one sent people to the back of the line (post, post).
- Estimates that jumped from 2.5 hours to about 7 (post), and from 3 hours to 14 (post).
- Being sent back to the start, then finding the ETBs gone on getting in (post).
- Reaching checkout, having cards declined, then losing access to the site (post).
Plenty got through, too
- Many people posted a secured pre-order between about 11:15 AM and 1 PM (example, example).
- One buyer got a booster box but missed the ETBs by about 10 minutes, and asked why it sold out in under two hours (post).
- One collector defended the queue: janky, but facing a huge number of attempts in a few minutes, and fairer than raffles, which bots win (post).
Why would a line move backwards?
Pokémon Center hasn't said, and it hasn't named the waiting-room system it uses. Guides written by people who inspected the page point to Imperva's waiting room, formerly Incapsula (TechStory). Imperva's documentation describes a setting where a visitor who stays inactive too long "is considered as having left the queue" and, on coming back, "moves to the end of the queue" (Imperva). We don't know how Pokémon Center has it set up.
These are the possible explanations; none is confirmed.
- Re-checks that reset your place. If a repeat CAPTCHA or bot check fails or times out, or counts as leaving, the visitor can be sent to the back of the line. The CAPTCHA reports above fit this.
- Recalculated estimates. Wait estimates are usually based on how fast the line is moving. If the store lets people in more slowly, for example to keep checkout from crashing, the estimate goes up even if your place doesn't change.
- Removed visitors. If flagged bot sessions are taken out of the line, the number ahead of you should only go down. On its own, that doesn't explain it going up.
- Sold out, line still running. Everything was gone by about 1 PM, while people who joined later still had hours showing.
This has happened before
- Pitch Black, June 10, 2026: the site crashed (Tech Times), and people reported being ejected from the queue after long waits and having to start over, while all three products sold out fast (Reno Gazette Journal).
- 30th Celebration, September 2026: Pokémon Center canceled thousands of pre-orders, mainly ones placed by bots, and some regular buyers who waited in line for hours were canceled too. The Pokémon Company made no official statement (Kotaku).
Why not show how much is left?
Pokémon Center could show people in line how much of each product is left, or at least when it's gone. Nobody would wait hours for something that already sold out, and people could leave the line once their item was gone instead of holding a place for nothing. Stores sometimes keep stock numbers private so bots can't time their attempts, but a sold-out notice for people already in line gives nothing away.
It would also help Pokémon Center's own score. On our Store Report Card, publishing stock counts or how orders were allocated is worth 4 points under Transparency. Pokémon Center gets none of them today; earning them would lift its score from 83 to 87.
What Pokémon Center could tell buyers
- Show people in line how much of each product is left, or tell them when it sells out.
- Explain what makes a place in line or a wait estimate jump.
- Say whether bot sessions were removed, and roughly how many.
- Say whether orders from bots or over-limit accounts will be canceled, how regular buyers are protected from being canceled by mistake, and whether that stock comes back.
