Disney Lorcana formats and legal sets: what buyers need to know
Lorcana has two main tournament formats: Core, which uses only the newer sets, and Infinity, which uses every set. If you're buying cards or sealed product to play at events, the set it comes from decides where it's legal. Here's what's legal now, how rotation works, and how to check before you buy. Always confirm the format with the event's organizer.
In short
- Core allows Set 9 (Fabled) and later. Sets 1 to 8 rotated out of Core (Ravensburger).
- Hyperia City (Set 14) becomes Core-legal at its prerelease on October 16, 2026, because new sets are legal "immediately on prerelease in hobby stores" (Tournament Rules).
- Infinity allows every set, minus a short banned list. Sealed and Draft use packs the event hands out.
- The next rotation isn't announced as of October 13, 2026.

How rotation works
"Once per year, Disney Lorcana TCG rotates the four oldest sets" out of Core (Ravensburger). Ravensburger has said Core holds "between five and eight sets" at any time (Fabled release notes). The latest rotation took effect at the Attack of the Vine! prerelease on July 17, 2026 (Ravensburger). Rotated sets stay legal in Infinity.

Which format am I playing?
- 1. Read the event listingOrganizers must list the format.
- 2. Core? Set 9 or laterCheck the set number in a card's small print.
- 3. Infinity? Any setJust not a card on its banned list.
- 4. Sealed or Draft? The event supplies the packs.
Organizers have to advertise "the tournament type and format" (Tournament Rules). Find events, filtered by format, in Ravensburger Play's event finder.
Buying with legality in mind
- Check the set number. Each card carries the number of the set it's from, in the small print with its collector number, artist and language (Comprehensive Rules). On sealed product, the set name is the reliable check.
- Reprints count. If a card is legal in a format, "any printing of that card can be used in that format" (Tournament Rules).
- Promos "become legal when their respective set does" and rotate with it (Tournament Rules). See our promo cards guide.
- New sets are legal from their prerelease at hobby stores, not their wide release. See Prerelease events explained.
- Banned lists are separate for Core and Infinity; check Ravensburger's latest list before an event.
Checked against Ravensburger's official pages and rules on October 13, 2026. We re-check on the 1st and 15th of each month and whenever Ravensburger announces a format change. The full rules are on disneylorcana.com/resources.
